iPhone users can now text with pride after Apple announced a new rainbow flag emoji.

The company announced the new emoji as part of the most recent software update.

Alongside the rainbow flag, other new additions include more gender options for existing characters, such as female athletes and professionals, and more family options, including single-parent families.

While rainbows have already been a colourful part of the emoji family, the longtime symbol of the LGBT movement  has been noticeably missing.

“This exciting update brings more gender options to existing characters, including new female athletes and professionals, adds beautiful redesigns of popular emoji, a new rainbow flag and more family options,” Apple said in a statement.

The redesigned emoji characters will be coming to iPhones and iPads this autumn with iOS 10.
