LiberiacoatofarmsAn anti-gay group in Liberia has drawn a hit list and threatens to “go after” seven men who support homosexuality, reports AP.

The group calls itself Movement Against Gays in Liberia, issued the list over the weekend. It contains the names of two men who previously tried to legalise gay marriages.

The group’s fliers read: “Having conducted a comprehensive investigation, we are convinced that the below listed individuals are gays or supporters of the club who don’t mean well for our country.

“Therefore, we have agreed to go after them using all means in life.”

They added that those targeted on the hit list should “begin saying their Lord’s prayers”. AP confirmed that a member of the Movement said they would be prepared to kill the men.

A gay sex act is currently punishable by up to a year in prison in Liberia. This year, the Liberian senate was presented with a bill which would make punishments for homosexuality harsher. PinkNews.co.uk report that a representative for Senator Jewel Howard-Taylor confirmed that one bill suggested making a gay sex act a first degree felony, attracting imprisonment up to a life’s sentence. It also allowed for the death penalty to be used on a  judge’s discretion in “extreme cases”.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, has refused to sign a bill, but will not sign a bill repealing them.

During an interview alongside former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, President Sirleaf said: “We’ve got certain traditional values in our society that we would like to preserve. We’re going to keep to our traditional values.”
