Popular Hollyoaks star Annie Wallace continues to make history as she has become the first transgender actress to be nominated for a BAFTA award. 

Annie has been shortlisted as Best Actress in the Scottish BAFTA Awards.

She will compete against against Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe and Catastrophe’s Ashley Jensen at the awards ceremony, which will be held in November.

The actress, who began playing Sally St. Claire in the show back in November 2015, took to twitter to express her delight posting:

Director of BAFTA Scotland Jude MacLaverty said: “It’s great. I don’t watch Hollyoaks on a regular basis but I’m delighted.

“It’s brilliant, a completely great, diverse list.”

Before starring in Hollyoaks, Annie appeared in an episode of Shameless in 2011 as school headmistress Miss Heller but the Channel 4 series is her first permanent role.

The Scottish BAFTAs will be held on 6 November.
