This major queer arts festival at Dartington Hall is going to be off the charts.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality, Darlington Hall Trust is putting on a seven day queer arts spectacular called A Dartington Outing. We’ve had a peek at the programme and we can confirm that it looks phenomenal. Here are seven reasons we can’t wait.

1. Our Queer Histories Talk, 6.30-8pm 21 September

On opening night, you can listen to a fascinating talk from human rights specialist Jonathan Cooper, in which he discusses the key historical moments for LGBTQ+ people over the past 50 years.

2. Queerama: 50 Years Of Gay Rights And Desires, 1pm 23 September

Learn more about modern queer history through this excellent documentary. You’ll love its spellbinding soundtrack featuring Goldfrapp, Hercules & Love Affair and more.

3. An Evening With Noel Coward & Friends, 6.30pm 24 September

Fresh from a sell out run in NYC, the wonderful Stefan Bednarczyk performs a very special evening of Noel Coward’s songs and music in Dartington’s Great Hall. Don’t miss the cocktails beforehand.

4. Robert Taylor: Prints and Video, 10am-5pm 21-29 September

A collection of portraits of members of the LGBTQ+ community who have played an important part in LGBTQ+ history, but who do not always receive the recognition they deserve. Make sure you check this free exhibition out.

5. “We Are Family” Rainbow Tea Party, 3-6pm 24 September

Afternoon tea for the whole queer family! Friends and allies are welcome at this fun-filled event. Expect a gay anthems singalong, storytelling, bargain cakes and special prizes for the most flamboyantly dressed.
