A couple who were staying in a resort in Pattaya complained about a smell in their room, but continued to spend the night there anyway.

Police said the victim, a 28-year-old transgender woman, had been dead for three or four days.

‘The hotel’s cleaner found a very strong smell in the room and tried to find the source,’ Pattaya police chief Col Apichai Kropphet told the BBC.

‘Then the hotel staff searched the room and found the body under the mattress. But it wasn’t until after a Thai couple had checked in and slept on the bed.’

Police arrested two teenage boys, ages 14 and 17, who are charged with murder and with concealing the body. They will be tried in a juvenile court.

The boys, whose identities were withheld, were caught at Chonburi’s bus terminal after police tracked them down from the city’s surveillance cameras.

Bangkok Post reports that the teenagers allegedly told the police the 17-year-old and Kongsong befriended each other through Facebook.

He met up with Kongsong after she said she would help him find a job.

When the teenager rejected Kongsong’s sexual advances, a fight broke out.

With the help of his 14-year-old friend, he allegedly strangled Kongsong to death, leaving her corpse in the hotel room.
