Caitlyn Jenner’s 2-hour-long interview with Diane Sawyer propelled her transgender journey last year.

The reality star and 20/20 journalist were presented with the award for Outstanding TV Journalism at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York for their efforts on Saturday.

Jenner said she watched the nerve-wracking ‘coming out’ with her  children by her side, checking social media for reaction:

“My biggest concern, always, and anybody in this room, when you have secrets, and you live your life with secrets, your biggest concerns are your loved ones.

“I have ten children. My biggest concern was my kids, especially my last two, little Kendall and Kylie who are 17 and 18 at the time.”

The former Olympian then added that she was floored when she saw the positive reaction that came in.

“Within minutes after the show started, social media started to go crazy,” she said. “Celebrities, I think it was Lady Gaga was the first one with these positive comments and the list went on and on and on.”

Jenner ended her speech with a positive note: “It has been quite a ride for the past year. And there is nothing better in life than living your life authentically.”
