After packing out houses in London and Brighton, Aussie independent film All About E is about to play Lesbian Captial of the north, Hebden Bridge.

All About E – a new Australian comedy-drama – will screen at The Hebden Bridge Picture House for the first time on Sunday, May 15th at 4pm.

Director LOUISE WADLEY and producer JAY RUTOVITZ and leading cast member SIMON BOLTON will take part in an audience Q&A afterwards hosted by BBC Radio 4 dramatist Polly Thomas.

Sydney-based Ms Wadley – who has directed several acclaimed feature films and documentaries – said she was thrilled to be presenting All About E in Hebden, as the region played a formative part in its development.

“All About E was written over several years, starting when I lived in Todmorden,” said Ms Wadley.

“ I would take long walks over the tops to the Bridestones or up to Gadding’s and at one stage the storyline had the action starting in London and then hitting the road and driving up to the Yorkshire Moors .

“Many of the key scenes came to me while being inspired by the dramatic views and atmosphere of the hills when Jay and I were out together on one of our many walks. Then we moved to Australia and London became Sydney and the Yorkshire moors became the Outback, but the characters and the story stayed very similar, which just goes to show a good story has universal appeal,” she said.

Wadley was selected for the prestigious Outfest Script Lab and mentored by some of Hollywood’s top writers including Warner Brothers stalwart Michele Mulroney (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and Don Roos (Marley and Me, The Opposite of Sex).

A road movie which blurs the lines between comedy, drama, thriller and romance, the film concerns the story of E, played by MANDAHLA ROSE (Oranges and Sunshine, Wolf Creek 2) – a beautiful Sydney DJ who finds herself on the run when she and her gay best friend and husband of convenience, Matt, stumble upon a stash of cash.

Along the way, E must find the strength to face her demons, come out as a lesbian to her immigrant family, and confront the girl who once broke her heart.

All About E screened to packed houses on the festival circuit and also stars JULIA BILLINGTON (Janet King, Catching Milat, Starting from Now) and BRETT ROGERS (Rake) as well as ex-Shakespearean actor SIMON BOLTON (Cheek by Jowl). The Hebden Bridge screening is part of a limited release in the UK.

“Hebden Bridge has long had a sizeable LGBTI community and it’s important for our large local LGBTI community to see their lives reflected in the arts without having to trek to the Manchester or London, so we are thrilled it is coming to Hebden Bridge” said Lesbian History Group organiser Brenda Whisker

Tickets to the screening – which will commence at 4pm on Sunday, 15th May –can be purchased online in advance  from here.
