More than three million gay, lesbian, bisexual and transsexual people marched and danced through the streets of Sao Paulo, in Brazil, for the world’s largest gay pride parade.
In the 16th march of its kind in Sao Paulo, participants danced through the four hour parade, but brought with them a more serious message: End homophobia. The message of this year’s event was “Homophobia has a cure: Education and criminalization”.
One gay rights activist marching in the parade, told BBC News: “There are 190 million Brazilians and not all gay people have come out. This is a great parade and a great event, but there is still a lot we have to do to fight against homophobic violence. Fortunately Sao Paulo is one of the few cities where people show us a little more respect.”
Police were on hand for the event, but no major incidents were reported.
