Sam Smith and Adele are among those nominated at this year’s British LGBT Awards.

Dubbed “the Gay Oscars”, the British LGBT Awards bring together the good and the brave across the LGBT community in a celebration of diversity and visibility on the public stage.

The awards provide an important opportunity to celebrate and highlight the achievements of LGBT people throughout the UK and beyond. The glitzy ceremony, taking place at London’s Grand Connaught Rooms on Friday 13th May 2016 will pay tribute to the individuals and organisations who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to promoting equality and diversity.

The shortlist has been drawn up following a public nomination process.

Among those on the shortlist are:
LGBT Celebrity of the Year
Alan Carr, Boy George, Caitlyn Jenner, Cara Delevingne, Dustin Lance Black, Kieron Richardson, Ruby Rose, Ben Whishaw

Music Artist of the Year: Adele, Jess Glynne, Halsey, Little Mix, Zayn Malik, Frank Ocean, Sam Smith, Years and Years

Celebrity Straight Ally of the Year: Kim Cattrall, Eddie Redmayne, Danny Dyer, Nigella Lawson, Holly Willoughby, Brian May, James Sutton, Zoe Sugg (Zoella)

Broadcaster of the Year: Gok Wan, Clare Balding, Vicki Beeching, Nick Grimshaw, Evan Davis, Paul O’Grady, RuPaul, Sue Perkins

Sports Person of the Year: Nicola Adams, John Amaechi, Keegan Hirst, Nigel Owens, Mark McAdams, Sam Stanley, Heather Stanning, Casey Stoney

Meanwhile, Caitlyn Jenner and US presidential candidate Hillary Clinton are recognised for their work to promote LGBT acceptance.

Eastenders, Hollyoaks and BBC trans comedy ‘Boy Meets Girl’ are amongst those shortlisted for the Media Moment of the Year award.

Other award categories include ‘Charity/Community Initiative of the Year’, ‘LGBT Network of the Year’ and ‘Inspirational Role Model’, multi-national corporations, business people and straight allies.

The event is set to be the best yet and will firmly confirm our position Britain’s biggest LGBT event. The 2016 shortlist showcases a huge range of LGBT celebrities and straight allies who are doing wonderful things for and on behalf of the LGBT community.”
